James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos (1673-1744), was a British statesman and patron of the arts. His only surviving son, Henry Brydges, 2nd Duke of Chandos (1708-1771), inherited the dukedom and some of his father's posts. James Brydges, 3rd Duke of Chandos (1732-1789), son of Henry Brydges, was a Whig politician and courtier. The 3rd Duke had no male heirs, and at his death the dukedom became extinct.
